We need to talk about antimicrobial stewardship and antibiotic abuse in pre-school literature.
I have just read this with my 4yo and I am *raging*.
@theplaguedoc Sadly this is not a new terror. Have you heard about Miss Polly's dolly? She even gets a house call! https://wordsforlife.org.uk/activities/miss-polly-had-dolly-nursery-rhyme-lyrics/
@natural20 @theplaguedoc my childhood version said "I'll be back in the morning with my bill bill bill" but then I moved to NHS land and learned a new way.
@Ailbhe @theplaguedoc Yes, the version I learned also mentioned the bill, even though I'm pretty sure GP care was free in Ireland at the time. Was a while before the the £10 fee came in. Was €70 on my latest visit, 50% back through health insurance, but I got an appointment very quickly.
@natural20 They weren't free when I was growing up.
@Ailbhe I had thought they were, but it's possible I'm conflating it with A&E and also I was immensely lucky enough that any such costs were never an issue I saw as a child.
@natural20 I wonder if they were covered if you had vhi? We never did so I wouldn't know.
@Ailbhe Hmm, maybe? We did, but possibly it was just something my parents could afford.
@natural20 @Ailbhe Yeah, I don't think GP visits were ever free here. It was a huge deal when they introduced the idea for kids and that's recent.
@Antiqueight @natural20 it's right and proper that kids should grow up thinking it's free though. Always thinking "ok but is the baby really £50 of snuffly-wheezy?" is no way to live.
@Ailbhe @natural20 Yes. It is. Or at least - even if they don't think it's free they shouldn't think it's something to worry about which for many, any fee would be too much and they know it - which is the long way of me getting to agreeing with you in full.
