Hey, Mastodon! I need some help ... I want to collect the phrase "Hello, World!" in as many different natural languages as possible (i.e. things like Swahili, French, Hindi, etc. - not programming languages!)
If you speak languages other than English or Welsh and you're willing to give me a translation, I'll be extremely grateful. (Ideally you'll be a fluent speaker of any language(s) you contribute - it's important for my project that the examples are correct and idiomatic.)
@linguacelta
I'm struggling with the Irish, it's really not an idiom that translates, but
Haló, a Dhomhain
Our normal greeting is God be with you/youse Dia duit/dhaobh
But world is singular, but the phrase should be plural(in my mind anyway)
Dia duit a Dhomhain
That's if you're saying Hello to the planet itself.
"Hello World!" is implicitly a greeting o all the people of the world rather than the physical planet, so it would be "Dia dhaobh, a Dhomhain!"
