#PrideMonth seems like a good time to make a list of #LGBT characters in #Nintendo games.
A thread.
1/?
First of all, there's #Birdo, who first appeared in #SuperMarioBros2 (AKA Super Mario Bros USA), the same game which introduced Bob-Ombs and Shy Guys, and the first where Peach was playable.
The Japanese manual states that Brido "mistakenly believes themself to be a girl", which is really bad phrasing. Still, in all subsequent appearances, Birdo has been referred to as female, and there's even a mission in Captain Rainbow where you prove she is indeed a girl. She is trans.
2/?
#Yoshi, who first appeared in #SuperMarioWorld, and tends to be partnered with Birdo in spinoff games. Yoshi identifies as male and is consistently referred to with male pronouns, but he lays eggs, so he is also trans.

#FireEmblem does not, to my knowledge, have any trans characters (I haven't played Engage yet), but does have a few LGB characters.
* Leon (Gaiden, Echoes) is a gay man, or at least Valbarsexual.
* Heather (Radiant Dawn) is a lesbian.
* Corrin, Niles, Rhajat, and Soleil in Fates are all bi, and Soleil furthermore prefers women.
* Byleth, Rhea, Edelgard, Linhardt, Dorothea, and Mercedes in Three Houses are all bi, and Three Hopes establishes that Monica is either a lesbian or Edelgardsexual.
* Yuri and Jeritza from the DLC from also bi, and Three Hopes establishes that Sylvain, of all characters, is at least a little into men.
Three Houses also has some characters who aren't explicitly LGB but there is evidence they aren't hetero.
* Claude dances with Byleth at the ball, regardless of gender.
* Lorenz is clearly more comfortable with men than women; my reading is that he would rather marry Ferdinand than anyone else, but feels a duty to produce an heir.

Petra can't actually marry Dorothea; however, in their paired ending, Dorothea gets the title "Devoted Heart", which she normally only gets when she's married. So Petra probably isn't entirely hetero.

And finally, there is #SamusAran of #Metroid fame.
The English manual of the first game referred to Samus as "he" to hide the surprise that she's a woman all along!
In 1994, Hirofumi Matsuoka, who worked on the original game, said Samus was a "newhalf", a term for a transgender person which, as far as I know, is outdated at best. Matsuoka appears to have been joking, but this is still #WordOfGod that Samus isn't cisgender.

@Infrapink
They are not exactly the most memorable or central character, but Kyza from Radiant Dawn is non-binary. Recent translations have referred to Kyza with they/them pronouns.
@Toge Oh, wow!
It does look like Kyza is actually a transwoman and Heroes is, as usual, being inconsistent. But hey, I'm not going to complain if the Heroes version of Kyza is nonbinary.
@Infrapink
Might also be that the translators weren't quite sure what to go with, and thought they/them was playing it safe. RD, and I assume the Japanese source text, leave it a bit vague.
