We live, literally, on the Euro Velo 1 international cycling route. We see cyclists passing by daily.
According to Apple Maps app, there are no cycling routes anywhere near us!
Basically all of the EV1 follows the main roads, same as 1 & 3 below, yet…
You’d think a bike route would be ‘easy enough’ to include, especially when it follows the car / walking routes & has it’s own way markers.
But no.
Apple’s Maps app has long been flawed. But offering nothing where something exists is quite an achievement.
This 200 meter stretch of cycling infrastructure doesn’t even feature on Apple Maps.
Both directions, the entirety of our cycle lane infrastructure in one photo.
That’s it for at least 100 km & this bit isn’t even on the EV1, that diverts around ‘back lanes’.
@JasonLee They only added bike routes to U.S. maps two years ago. It looks like they’re rolling out this feature incrementally.

@adamrice maybe so, Adam.
However, they can calculate walking time & distance + same for cars. All pretty much follow the main road or backroad routes around here.
We literally cycle the same routes.
The basic distance & time for cycling are all they need to accommodate. They have the ‘button’ for it.
Adding EuroVelo or other mapped cycle routes can stilled be rolled out.
They also have their EU headquarters ~100km from here.
@adamrice I only discovered this recently enough, curious of the time it’d take to cycle the route a friend was driving, with Apple’s Maps on.
Seems like a big functional omission in 2024.
For anyone interested, EuroVelo is available on and uses Open Street Maps (also used by Strava & Komoot amongst others).
