@tierfreund Butler doesn't explicitly cite it but there's a famous ancient scholia on the #Iliad known as the D scholia which cites a lost epic, the Cypria, which says the plan of #Zeus was to relieve the burden of Gaia from the amount of men.
I'd just never considered a class analysis given the warrior aristocrat nature of nearly everyone in the Iliad.
