#MarvelUK #DarkAngel #2 (1992) - 1/10
Awful.
Something something something. And fighting.
I've rarely seen a book fall so far, so fast. The first issue was average. Nothing special, but it told a coherent and enjoyable story. This? This is a mess.
First, the X-Men pages are clearly written/drawn so that they can be inserted/removed as required. This is true of all American guest characters in Marvel UK comics of this time. I don't mind that. I mind that it is done so badly here.
An explosion at the bottom of one page is followed but the arrival of the mutants for several pages. Their departure is followed by an explosion at the top of the next page. And you can read the comic so that this is the same explosion, if you wish.
Second, the story is supposedly about an assassination attempt. But you'd never know that from the art. All the relevant info is clunkily given in the narration boxes. A clear breaking of the "show don't tell" rule of storytelling/writing.
Last, there are some truly bananas concepts here. One is the realm of dead superheroes(!). A group of whom are brought back to life(?) to fight with the good guys. I have many questions about how/why this would happen. But mostly I'm disappointed that #Nighthawk from #SquadronSupreme is brought back and given nothing to do/say. Jordan Dixon (the original Viper) is there, too. Briefly. And Vakume of the #SalemSeven.
What a strange and terrible comic.
