I’m going to post all tweets from our first cave excavation of 2023 in a thread under this one. At least I try to be organised!😁
Rest day today, getting equipment sorted, chatting to new team members, finishing my talk for the 13th. R&R. C(ave)-day 1 tomorrow!

As sun is setting, we are all taking early night….dreaming of the unknown.
what will the cave sediments hold? What secrets will they give us? 🤞 Follow us as we explore the unknown world in sediments in a Irish cave the next two weeks! What lies beneath ….

We have arrived - Cave Day 1 - welcoming opening and amazing support from land owner. Organisation and clearing vegetation today. CSG cave member, amazing Denise on site with us today.

Maybe I should be numbering these tweets .. whoops… let’s see …last one was 6/n I think (let’s go with that).
Cold, very windy day today but dry thankfully. We are seeing intact cave sediment which is cool. Some dinner, hot tea to warm up and then bed. Tomorrow here we come! 7/n

8/n Cave day2. We have the start of our first spoil heap - woohoo!!’ The excellent Phil Kenny, Ireland’s most experiences cave archaeologist and core team member. Less windy today but colder and dry for now. Coffee break at 10.45am!

9/n rain has settled in now and we are setting up base camp tent…. Meanwhile hard at work inside the cave…where it’s dry! Cleaning back in progress

10/n raining now and set to be worse tomorrow morning - Full waterproofs will be required! End of Day2 hot dinner awaits when we get home, warm showers and bed. Great progress made today. Tomorrow awaits!
