I gave a short presentation at last night on (a) why "What order should I read the Discworld books in?" is the best way to start an argument at a fan gathering, and (b) why I think that publication order is probably best.

I should maybe turn it into a blog post.

@TRiG
Me: 'chronological but I'll forgive you if you start with Mort. Unless you're a pre-teen girl in which case I WILL make you read Equal Rites first.'

@Burntcopper That's an option which makes sense, yes. Though I might push a pre-teen to the Young Adult series (Maurice, then Wee Free Men and the rest of the Tiffany Aching series).

@TRiG they may have those but Equal Rites FIRST. dammit.

@Burntcopper I share your love for Equal Rites, actually. It's the transition point from pure parody to actually taking his creation seriously as a world, and it's perhaps the most explicitly feminist book in the series, too. The feminism is definitely present in many other books, but in Equal Rites it's not subtle!

@TRiG *resists the urge to start the discussion* Would happily read as blog post. You could give said presentation to us in the bar/lobby at too 💚 :pratchett: - really looking forward to seeing everyone.

@shivers Job for this weekend: find my blog backups and get it online again.
