We are plagued with cookie pop-ups, not because the law mandates cookie pop ups, but because they were the advertising surveillance industry’s reaction to a law intended to reduce the level of needless surveillance of web users.

The EU didn’t mandate these pop-ups.

Google mandated them as an alternative to websites choosing not to feed them user data.
