@Yvonne I’m getting a happy ‘explaining the to Americans on the other place’ vibe.

@dakar 🤣🤣🤣, jesus hoping happy clappy Turbridy doesn't arrive

@Yvonne @dakar That’s exactly it. Now that we’ve left a place where we were always looking up and being sold things to place where we looking sideways and getting connected with real people, how do we keep it that way and keep the clout chasers, if not out, in their place?

@Yvonne @TonyFlynn funny, I was always happy enough to avoid/mute/block trolls, assholes and attention seekers on the other place, so they never really bothered me. This place has a nice vibe though, I’m liking the feel so far.

@dakar @Yvonne @TonyFlynn so long as he gets the vibe, like everyone else, he'll be fine. But woe-betide the those who fail the vibe-check

@alisca @Yvonne @TonyFlynn hmm, I’m waiting so see how things develop. Echo chambers can get very echoey…

@dakar @TonyFlynn i like real people just doing real things with real thoughts,

@Yvonne @TonyFlynn @alisca I suppose the thing is real people always have agendas, everyone is the centre of their own universe ultimately. The issue is how they interact, converse, debate. I’m always happy to chat constructively with anyone who wants to honestly try to convince me of something as long as they respect my conclusion. The question is how ‘real people’ with contrary views act and are treated here.

@dakar @TonyFlynn @alisca yep, absolutely, taking another viewpoint digesting it asking yourself has it merit, then reply, before you fly off the handle half cocked, now in fairness I am a flyer of the handle bytimes, 🤣🤣, but I always apologise.

@Yvonne @dakar @alisca Default setting for me on t’other site was definitely ‘fly off handle’! I learned over time that I was saying more about myself than anything when I did so. Why did I have to “win”? Why so snarky? Why so angry? Then I started to learn about trauma, generational and personal, and things started to make more sense.

I love debating with people in good faith. It’s hard to find. Politicians trade in logical fallacies as a tool of their craft. People copy them. Aargh!

@TonyFlynn @dakar @alisca i know, your reaction is often a barometer of your mood ....get us all philosophical and mature🤣🤣🤣, perhaps the interweb and its audience are maturing too.

@Yvonne @dakar @alisca Whatever about maturing, I think we’re more educated about how social media was designed with intent to over stimulate us. Nobody likes to get played, that’s why I’m certainly more open to a less shouty place where you engage with fewer people but more meaningfully. And no ads!

@TonyFlynn @Yvonne @dakar I've been trying to explain to friends and family that birdsite does NOT have to be that way, that it's not 'inherent in human nature', that it's DESIGNED to generate anxiety and conflict. It's been bloody exhausting.

@Yvonne @dakar @alisca I love this depiction. It explains so much, from addiction to like-chasing on social media.

@dakar @TonyFlynn @Yvonne ‘fly off the handle’ is such a great phrase tho

like, what does that? Saucepans? Can you imagine the kitchen disaster you get when the handle flies off your saucepan full of baked beans? It’s so APT

In TEFL classes, it would always cause delight!

@alisca @dakar @Yvonne Ha! I always assumed it referred to runaway pottery!

@Yvonne @dakar @TonyFlynn also note: it’s not ‘fall’ off the handle. I mean, it’s making a massive mess!!

@alisca @Yvonne @dakar Wannabee pottery (clay) flying off the wheel. Ok, wheel <> handle.

@Yvonne Maybe we like the misery!
