Brian Hughes

New! Now published in the latest issue of 'Brain' >> our article on why it is dangerously wrong to attribute postural tachyardia syndrome (POTS) to psychogenic processes.

Or in plain language:

This symptom of and reflects central neurological dysfunction...it is not "all in the mind".

academic.oup.com/brain/article

@b_m_hughes is there anyway to access the full article without paying?

@GwenfarsGarden It is Open Access so you can get it via that link in HTML or pdf. It is quite short, so what you see there is the whole thing!

@b_m_hughes ah, so it's just the extract part? Sorry, I thought it was longer.

@GwenfarsGarden Apologies, I think I was wrong. I see that the paper is not Open Access and so you are just getting an extract. Sorry about the confusion.

Fortunately, the full text was posted as a pre-print here: osf.io/9cdz5/

I think I will post it to my blog as well...

@b_m_hughes ah thanks, this makes more sense. Or was it my pavlovian response to trying to understand that made me not understand?!

They are just making crap up at this point.

Thank you to you et al for your great letter

@b_m_hughes thank you for sharing. It’s terribly sad how many patients are told it’s in their head before finally finding a #POTS knowledgeable doctor to put the pieces together.

@b_m_hughes Thank you for this needed criticism of the POTS study.

The other article in the same issue also criticizing the study has a witty title: "Patients with POTS fear that data on abnormal haemodynamic physiology have been ignored"
