August 2 is European Holocaust Memorial Day for Sinti and Roma. The European Parliament declared this date the European Holocaust Memorial Day for Sinti and Roma in 2015 in memory of 500,000 Sinti and Roma murdered in Nazi-occupied Europe. On the night of August 2 1944 the last 4,300 Sinti and Roma in the German Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau were murdered by the SS despite their fierce resistance.
@bullivant thanks for highlighting this. I think the guide we had in Auschwitz a few days ago mentioned this date when we got out of Block 11, to the yard where they flogged people.
