On 18 February 1943 Hans and Sophie Scholl, part of the White Rose group of peaceful protesters against the Nazi regime, were arrested at the University of Munich. They were later executed by guillotine. They were 24 and 21 years old.
@bullivant I always think of "Die Gedanken sind frei" when I remember the White Rose group.
@bullivant the more recent regimes of #Argentina and #Chile should also be a reminder of how total power can be used against citizens.
@Quarky Agreed.
@bullivant
And Christoph Probst. Why is he so often omitted?
@wortezimmer He wasn't arrested until the 20th.
@bullivant
Ah yes, sorry. I was only looking at the date of their execution.
@wortezimmer No problem.
"How can we expect righteousness to prevail when there is hardly anyone willing to give himself up individually to a righteous cause... It is such a splendid sunny day, and I have to go."
- the last words of Sophie Scholl
@RhinosWorryMe Inspiring words.
