John Boorman’s Excalibur (1981) is a slightly divisive Arthurian movie but its strengths outweigh its weaknesses and Boorman couldn't make a dull movie if he tried. Boorman claimed this movie kicked off the sword-and-sorcery boom.

@d4doome So much chewing of the scenery. Such a great movie.
@d4doome 'slightly devisive' ?
Beautifully done, but early medieval knights in late medieval jousting armour was such a repeated kick in the teeth that suspension of disbelief was difficult for those of us who had familiarity with the period & source material before Hollywood hopped on sword&sorcery.
(We called it Reynolds Planet in the Alcoa System because of the anachronistic shiny aluminium plate armour.)
(Nice review.)
@d4doome I’ve been itching to rewatch this lately. Absolutely amazing film, methinks
