As most of you know, I don't have a monetized channel and I don't have sponsors so I generally don't try all that hard for "engagement" on YouTube. It's a creative expression outlet for me, first and foremost.

On a whim, since the footage of the police in my latest video includes some choice facial expressions, I included a human image in this week's thumbnail...

Holy unexpected numbers, batman. I can see why other creators so religiously do "YouTube Face" in all their video thumbnails, heh. I don't plan on doing that but it is none the less wild to see the data go berserk like this.

Thumbnail of my latest video, which includes a screenshot of one of the police officers in the video as he looks at the gun case situation being documented. People (myself included) sometimes criticize the inclusion of a human face in thumbnail images like this.
Analytic trends showing that my video from today, despite being longer than almost all of my recent uploads, has much higher engagement with the audience. I seldom check these numbers but it did seem wild how much the view count was going up.
