There's a tiny, but very significant change to the ActivityPub plugin for WordPress. Exciting times for blogging. :)
Edit for clarity: Automattic has been added as an author of the plugin. Sorry, saved you reading the comments!
Edit 2: Matthias Pfefferle has joined Automattic!
Looks like @kraft and @atomicpoet already spoiled the surprise. :)
Automattic is very interested in the Fediverse and we're actively helping to develop that plugin now.
@donncha great news!!!
@donncha Can you tell us what it is? I have the plugin installed on my site at Bluehost, but apparently Bluehost has some security setting that doesn't let people follow properly. I keep hoping they come up with a workaround for the plugin that would let it work properly on Bluehost sites.
@cameron it's a plugin that allows your blog to appear on the Fediverse. Here's a post I wrote about it: https://odd.blog/2022/11/06/how-to-add-your-blog-to-mastodon/
Look up @donncha@odd.blog for an example :)
Yes, sorry I wasn't clear, I have the ActivityPub plug-in already installed on my WordPress blog at Bluehost. Unfortunately, though, Bluehost security settings block something that is required for it to work there. there's some discussion of this online. I was hoping (probably in vain) that the update you teased got around the problem. The plug-in does look great and I hope sooner or later something changes at Bluehost.
@cameron Oh, sorry. I thought I was replying to another post asking what this was!
I'm not sure what Bluehost are doing to stop it. Maybe it's the .well-known directory? Do you have the webfinger plugin installed too?
@donncha
According to something I came across, it's something to do with Bluehost blocking some kind of JSON request. I'll try to find the link. I can find my blog on Mastodon without any problem, the issue that I and others have is that 'follow' doesn't work.
@donncha
Hi D,
Nice to see.
Slightly odd mistake on the page. Unsure if you are the right person to mention this to, but the list of supported fediverse softwares is missing GNUSocial. Below the list it recommends #GNUSocial.
Cheers.
@dsfgs I see it listed in the "What is..." question, right next to Mastodon. I don't have access to that page though, so I can't change it.
@donncha
Yes, but unfortunately, above that, where it lists what is seemingly an exhaustive list of compatible servers, GNUSocial is missing.
@donncha Awesome! Anything that makes fediverse adoption easier for people sounds like good news to me!
@donncha oh wow congrats @pfefferle! now we have one of our own on the inside! I trust you will push automattic in the right direction!
@donncha GREAT.
I want ActivityPub live on my wordpress.com site. I hope this become easily available soon!
@donncha Edit 2 is SIGNIFICANT!
