A Visit to Mount Melleray Abbey
The Cistercian Abbey at Mount Melleray in Co Waterford will be closing its doors on January 26th this year. I’ve only visited a couple of times, but my wife and I felt we wanted to go one more time before the gates close.
Honestly, it’s such a tranquil place - it always felt like stepping into another world. Today, there was a steady stream of visitors coming and going.

@donncha wow. I’ve thought several times of visiting- I had a deep connection and affection for the Cistercians (Trappists) in America in the 1980s. I like to visit the ruined Cistercian Abbeys, Jerpoint is a favourite. I like to stand facing “ad oriente” like the monks did and connect with their spiritual presence.
@europe there is apparently a small chance they will return there in a year's time. Hopefully they do.
