Visited in today: founded by Irish nuns from the Sisters of the Good Shepherd in 1863, by 1901 it was largest charitable institution operating in the Southern Hemisphere. Its large , chapel, Magdalen Laundry & industrial school are still extant. Saved via community efforts, it’s a popular arts centre now, but still grappling with its past, and how to interpret the diverse (traumatic and redemptive) stories of the women and girls who lived here.
