Classics Bookclub night! This month we're discussing the (not at all spooky) #Halloween pick of #NorthangerAbbey by #JaneAusten - a novel I thought I'd read years ago but remembered nothing about... anyway, let the bookchat begin... #Bookclubs
@gutterbookshop I was just talking about this! I took a graduate seminar on the gothic, and we read both NA and all of the "horrid" novels referenced in it. It was a blast. (And NA--like all of Austen's novels--always cracks me up, no matter how many times I read it.)
@MonicaCMiller @gutterbookshop Reading all the other books mentioned in it sounds like a lot of fun!
@gutterbookshop not my favourite Jane Austin but she creates a naive and biddable heroine, a vile father , two siblings trying to breathe under his tyranny and suspicions of a body in a trunk. And yet everything ends happily . At least that’s how I remember it?
@gutterbookshop Oh, I haven't read that for years. I remember liking it, must pick it up again.
@gutterbookshop there's one exchange from this book that always makes me laugh, it's something like...
-what are you thinking about
-nothing
-that is very deep and artful thinking
