I’m disappointed that the Dominion-Fox News case didn’t go to trial. A full airing of evidence would have exposed Fox as a willing purveyor of #disinformation
That said, 787m USD is no small price to pay along with a mealy mouthed acknowledgment of the falsity of their reporting

/2 While I accept the notion that the $787 m #FoxDominion settlement is certainly bearable, I think the scale of the payment will have a chilling effect on the purveyors of #disinformation. This agreement is not going to give shareholders of Fox Corp a warm fuzzy as it disrupts a #news business model predicated on lies and will take a huge chunk out of this year’s profits - likely more than 50%.

/3 Waiting in the wings for #FoxNews is the #Smartmatic #defamation lawsuit, featuring another company also smeared by the supposed #news service. Will the aggrieved party receive a similar settlement and if so what will that do to #Fox’s highly opinionated fact free “reporting”?

/4 While Dominion’s #FoxNews victory may be in the rear view mirror, another similar suit against #OAN is outstanding. A second win might prompt the business types who sit behind these unwholesome “#News services” to reconsider the business implications of #defamation based broadcasting
/5 New York Times out with an article discussing how the landscape may be changing the situation for #ONN as well as #RudyGiuliani and #pillowguy #MikeLindell. I question whether the latter 2 have significantly deep pockets to be worthy of pursuit. That said I wouldn’t weep if they were forced into bankruptcy

/6 John Poulus of #Dominion explains why he settled the #FoxDominion suit rather than going to trial. He lists the 6 remaining defamation cases being pursued by his company - 4 suits against individuals in addition to #NewsMax and #OAN
Further success will have a distinct cooling on those who pursue the #BigLie

/7 Many are disappointed #FoxNews will not be subjected to a public trial exposing their willful embrace of the #BigElectionLie. The #HardRight ecosphere are busily selling the shrewdness of the #FoxDominion settlement. Truth is, #Dominion has now shown the way to victims of propaganda outlets masquerading as #NewsMedia. A few more settlements like this and there will be nothing left to be shrew with

/8 Why exactly was #TuckerCarlson fired by #FoxNews?
Chances are we’ll never really know as #RupertMurdoch and his corporate lackeys know how to keep their collective mouths shut
Likely, the firing was triggered by financial pain associated with #FoxDominion settlement, a pending sexual harassment suit or the reported general disdain #Tucker expressed to #Fox executives
I don't think the #Dominion settlement (which was a win for Dominion but was absolutely NOT a loss for #Fox or trump or the right-wing) didn't play as much into #TuckerCarlson 's firing as much as his comments about the company leadership and the pending lawsuit by Abby Grossberg.
Word is this was a decision straight from Murdoch himself so I'm guessing there's some bad evidence in this Grossberg suit about to come to light or something we don't know about yet.
I can’t say I’m familiar with the #AbbyGrossberg. Certainly allegations of sexual harassment aren’t surprising given #FoxNews checkered history. In light of the revelations from #FoxDominion I imagine there is likely an electronic trail which will bolster Ms Grossberg’s suit
I disagree on the notion that the #Dominion suit is “Not a loss for Fox”, a few more loses like that….

It’s a 99% win for them. They didn’t have the embarrassment and exposure of their talent and execs appearing on the stand with questions like “in this text, you refer to Trump as a lunatic…“ And the constant, continuous questions making them admit that they knew the election wasn’t stolen
It’s a win for Trump because now he can say “look! Dominion backed off and settled because they didn’t have a case because they were liars.”
Plus they even get to take it as a deduction
