This is the view I remember from our trip to #Guatemala with our father, when Siobhan was 15 and I was 17. #Tikal
@mtechman Tikal is amazing isn't it? I'm glad you were able to experience it with your family. Your sister's photos must bring back good memories for you.
@paigeroberts Incredible memories! double ring rainbow from the air, active volcano, Antigua - but Tikal was the best! I was telling future SIL about it and the easiest way was to put Star Wars poster on Wechat ;)
@mtechman Climbing an active volcano was definitely a highlight of Guatemala for me. Antigua is so beautiful, but I am a bit disappointed in myself that I have forgotten most of the Spanish that I went there to learn.
@paigeroberts My sister's degree is in Latin American studies and she is very bilingual. I'm a half-baked reader and eavesdropper with no grammar - from living in Texas. Now that I'm retired, I hope to resuscitate my French and acquire some Spanish grammar!
@mtechman The Spanish language school in Antigua that I went to in January 2010 was great. Highly recommend it!
@paigeroberts A friend will be spending part of every year in Madrid, with an extra bedroom, so I'm hoping to learn more Spanish and have virtual language table with mi hermana before July 2024. Siobhan (my sister) and I are going to Ireland to see cousins in late April - I just got good news from UVA docs saying I can travel and need no surgery. (I fell - fractured wrist and rib and wrenched shoulder.)
@mtechman I'm jealous of your upcoming Ireland trip. That's great that you've recovered enough from the fall!
@paigeroberts Thank you!
@paigeroberts P.S. you're sharing some wonderful stuff on here that Phillips is doing. Made me remember that I met John Palfrey at a conference (probably CIL?) and he mentioned me in his book. I was thrilled.
@mtechman That's a cool connection! I'm very fortunate to work with brilliant, curious, self-motivated students at Andover. Looking forward to working closely with a small cohort on difficult school history projects this spring!
