Last summer at this time I was in #Maine, in the #midcoast, with four other women. I was teaching a #studio class in #ObservationalPractice at #MaineMediaWorkshops. These classes are designed to help practicing #artists and #writers see their work and methods in new ways, by going back to the minutiae of #attention and observation as well as by offering them new processes and ways of working.
On the second day of class, we spent the morning looking at and talking about graphic notation and #GraphicScores. (We also did a bunch of exercises to think about #pattern, #form, #repetition, and practiced #DeepListening.)
That afternoon, each of us #composed a score for the #SummerSolstice. The only constraint was that it had to be playable (!).
In the evening, two #musicians joined a small audience (one isn't on Mastodon; the other is @msh). They proceeded to play each of our scores. It was a really special, intimate #performance. They #recorded it, and now it's being released as an #album on #Bandcamp.
The #album is called #solstice, and it's available on #Bandcamp as a pay-what-you-wish #download. There's a #ListeningParty on Wednesday evening (9pm Irish time, 4pm US Eastern), and you're very welcome to join.
P.S.: if you're interested in #GraphicNotation, the @wikipedia entry will give you lots of entry points!
