Day 4: verrrry slow breakfast, Centraal museum for some difficult video art and a screening of Jeremy Deller’s Everybody in the Place (great..v. emotional watch, not that I was at all hungover), couple of recovery beers in Cafe Derat (delicious tripel/geueze hybrid), Thai dinner and…Thiago Nassif, Horse Lords, Kee Avil, GNOD (again) and the Bug (feat. Dis Fig, Flowdan and Logan)

Music fatigue setting in at that point so highlights biased towards the early part of the evening but Horse Lords would surely have taken the laurels anyway. The criss-crossing, phasing rhythms continually confound expectations and the live sound gives the guitars more grit and heft than on record. Stacks of jaw-dropping moments. Thiago Nassif a worthy runner-up.

And with that, farewell Le Guess Who, farewell Utrecht, farewell Cafe Derat, farewell old friends and new. Bought my ticket for next year as soon as I got back to the hotel last night, see you all in 2023.
