Can anyone see "the rail line that passes the playa" on the Google or Apple map of Burning Man? I'm astonished to discover that there's actually railway that could be used to bring people safely out, and it's (apparently) not being used
#BurningMan
Ah, found it. To the southeast of #BurningMan - wish Google identified rail lines the way it does roads on #GoogleMaps https://www.google.com/maps/place/Black+Rock+City,+NV,+USA/@40.7282032,-119.178405,4665a,35y,38.5t/data=!3m1!1e3!4m6!3m5!1s0x809fb834cedea63b:0xbeb0dbe188039187!8m2!3d40.7886448!4d-119.2030177!16s%2Fm%2F05hq__7?entry=ttu
In fact, if the festival were to talk to the railways about reopening the disused Trego Hot Springs #railwaystation on the Western Pacific Railroad, about 6km away from #BurningMan, they'd do a lot of good to the local econmy as well as bringing in a variety of less car-reliant people to their festival
@sinabhfuil good idea. Is it on an existing Amtrak route?
@timrichards I assume it's a freight route as the cross Reddit post was about the burner's vehicle being damaged by his or her stupidity. America has a stupendous rail freight network - here's an old map; I gather it's more extensive now
