Week 9 (July 27-August 2) Character: How important is it for characters to be distinct from each other? (visually, emotionally, other ways) Do you use any frameworks (e.g. astrology, MBTI, elements) or techniques to distinguish them?"

From my viewpoint, characters just need to be people and people are distinct.

I discover who they are through the writing. I don't invent them in advance beyond the absolute basics for the MC.

Although nowadays, using 3D rendering, I might create a look in advance because I want to create a particular scene. Like this:

The two characters in this image are not lovers - but there is sexual tension. It didn't start out that way but developed during the writing (or planning in this case because it's CAT PEOPLE and it needs planning).

I know what Lauren and Geeta look like and I have a good idea of their relationship.

Made a #Blender rendition of this piece by @evansky_arts@mastodon.social: https://mastodon.social/@evansky_arts/114886154370491434

Took me about 5 hours so far. Very much of this is unfinished. The lighting effect in the sky is too smooth and not bright-looking enough, there are no cherry blossoms, the clouds aren't right (and I think are supposed to be clusters of cherry blossoms in the original work), the lanterns aren't finished or hanging off anything, many branches are still missing, and the main branch isn't done, but I was intending it to be a pretty quick and rough reproduction, so I'm happy enough with where it is at this moment.

I may return to it at some point to work on it more and improve it, but not anytime soon.
