InstagramDr Carolina Are/Hades on Instagram: "Doing a ~ discourse ~ today, this time with my two cents on why #thelifeofashowgirl Showgirl by Taylor Swift and Man’s Best Friend by Sabrina Carpenter sound like AI-generated, empty rushed jobs. The reason is simple: algorithms. Am I saying that tech bros have ruined music? Absolutely. Like content creators told to post everyday to maintain engagement, artists are not stopping even when they need a break and they’re uninspired - and having to follow the algorithmic hamster wheel is priming them for exhaustion. Recent data by @midia.research showed that viral hits don’t take young listeners in particular off social media and onto an artist’s catalogue, meaning that being seen as always creating hype that is connected to platform content helps you stay on top. Look at what Lola Young has had to do: she is (rightly) taking a break because she was pushed too hard by management. Swift herself said she recorded the album during the EU leg of the Eras tour, flying to Sweden in between gigs to do so. Girl? PLS SLEEP! As a content creator myself and as a platform scholar, I am deeply concerned about how grotesque it is to have to continue posting cute, upbeat content in time of g3n0c1d3 and rising f4sc1sm, all because capitalism and patriarchy are in the algorithm that is often followed even by the biggest artists. Refactored Analysis of TikTok's Content Moderation

The #TikTok CEO's comments seem to confirm my suspicion: the #platform is designed to deliver #content without adequately filtering for #extremistviewpoints during its rapid-fire serving process. While a faster #review is technically possible when a #video is uploaded, the current #moderationprocess is clearly insufficient before #content is served to the public.

This #system works exactly as #badactors need it to. They abuse the platform to spread #radicalizedcontent, and #TikTok appears to do little about it. This is less a failure of #proactive effort and more a consequence of the platform's core #design.

The Algorithmic "#RabbitHole"

The system's priorities appear to be purely #political and #engagement-driven. If a user engages with one piece of #extremistcontent—even through an unrelated #hashtag—the #algorithm starts pushing a flood of similar extremist material to them. This creates a confusing array of user profiles that engage with conflicting #ideologies (e.g., both #extremistright and #extremistleft content), making it difficult to pin down a person's exact #politicalalignment.

I believe the #AI is designed to profile every possible vulnerability—#loneliness, #desperation, #politicalviews—to keep users #engaged for as long as possible. The system operates without any discernible #ethicallogic. If ethical guardrails exist, the #AI certainly doesn't appear to be learning in a safe or positive way.

Maybe I'll go apply to #TikTok, and secure the american app and fix it. TikTok's current #algorithm is #insidious, I think designed to create #division and #radicalize people. Soon TikTok will tell me its #secrets, but I have to work on some #vulns system for a few weeks. Designing some brains for other important non-hobby smtask lol

My initial #scans for #TikTok are #worrying and I was concerned after my initial scans. My #AI systems were flagging everything. The #content never scored high like other #socialmedia platforms. The content is worrying not just from #radical left or right. There is something non-biased about how it tries to #radicalize. Like it is learning based off #heuristics, like time spent hovering over a #videotile. This triggers an #alert, where you didn't interact but it detected the most likely #video. Then provided more #content. It also gives a heavy weight to #interactions. Which then changes the #algorithm and how it provides #content. None of this is really bad, it is trying to be helpfulful. What I find concerning is the videos it provides. Like a stream of #bothsides #content. Trying to figure you out and provide more content. There isn't even #educational poop on TikTok. So most of the content is #madness Lol

For all the non #Muslim #FreePalestine supporters out there, how many of you are finding your #YouTube algorithm is serving you a lot of ads for Islam and humanitarian charities around the globe as a result of your viewing patterns?

I am not complaining, in fact I have enjoyed seeing and learning more about different cultures/faiths/charities etc but I am mildly amused.

I appear to have trained my #algorithm well.

#Trump says #TikTok should be tweaked to become “100% MAGA”

Fresh off #JimmyKimmel returning to TV to warn that Donald Trump's attacks on free speech would not end with #censoring #comedians critical of his administration, Trump signed an executive order to "save" TikTok, while supposedly joking that he'd like to #censor #influencers by tweaking the #algorithm so that content is "100 percent #MAGA."

"What do you lose by using Facebook", asked a friend who is keen to keep his account there for some reason.

What made me leave was the manipulation. I mean: they started hiding your friends posts in order to show you adverts instead! Feeding you slop from their promoted posts and "viral" messages (that aren't actually boosted by anyone, just picked out by their megaphone to show to everyone).

If you let the algorithm determine what you see than you let it determine what you are, who you become.

Even if you think it's better at finding shiny things than you, even if you think it builds the parasocial relationships that you want, even if you think it's saving you time to let the robot manage your reading-list: if you are letting Facebook, or any algorithm written by advertisers, do your reading selection then you are letting Facebook decide who you are.

On behalf of the advertisers who bribe them the most.

This is why you gotta use RSS. You gotta use the chronological timelines not the "for you" feeds. You gotta build follow relationships that you choose and understand because otherwise, you are letting the corporation and it's systems determine these things. You are abdicating some control of your very self to the machine.

Not to mention that we have to stop feeding money to the evil multi-trillion dollar companies built to control and manipulate us through our relationships with our friends. They have enough money, they need less participation not more.

#FediAlgo (the customizable timeline algorithm / filtering system for your Mastodon feed) v1.2.2 is deployed now. Has a switch that makes sure any #hashtags / users / etc. that you follow are displayed as filter options even if they don't meet the minimum number of recent toots threshold.

Also a bunch of bug fixes and small improvements.
