Forty years ago today, the Commodore Amiga 1000 was released to the world. With its unprecedented graphics & sound capabilities, powerful 16-bit CPU and custom chipset, and UNIX-like multitasking OS, the Amiga was a truly revolutionary system for its time. And, many are still in use to this day, with the platform seeing new software and hardware development from month to month.

I presently have three, myself. :-)

Happy 40th, Amiga!

After reconnecting the 2.5" HDD, the upgraded UBoot firmware happily loads the modular Kickstart of #AmigaOS 4.1.

I hold down both mouse buttons to enter an Early Startup screen which may look familiar to every old school #Amiga user, until you notice the futuristic CPU specs right in the middle of the screen! 😮

You might have to be a former AmigaOS user to get why this is enormously pleasing.

Screenshot shows my Ruby shell in my Ruby terminal on my Linux box, with the AmigaOS-like "assign" and "implicit cd" support.

(the shell is very primitive - it will shell out to bash to execute most command lines, but it means I can also do things like execute Ruby expressions directly by prefixing with ":", and get syntax highlighting)
