Day 18 -- Holiday Movie You Would Watch With Your Bias(es)

The invitees: all of my biases. so quite a quite a lot of idols. Here is an incomplete list from the beginning of the year: c.im/@jemmesedi/11169395271009

The setting: screening room with comfortable armchairs and sofas, plus lots of blankets and cushions.

The refreshments: hot tea and Walker's shortbread.*

The film: The Snowman (1982)

I chose this 25 minute animation because it's a charming holidayish film without any dialogue, the only words being those of the song "Walking in the Air" *. As such, it would be suitable for viewers with limited English.

The film, based on a wordless picture book by Raymond Briggs, was made in 1982 for the British TV station Channel 4. It's become a staple of British holiday viewing, but I am not sure that it is that well known beyond the UK.

The through-composed score by Howard Blake works so well.

Although the film is suitable for young viewers, it isn't babyish. It doesn't have any religious content, nor could it be considered remotely controversial in any way.

I think the Snowman is an ideal film for sharing with idols, and you all might enjoy it too!

C.IMJonathan Emmesedi (@jemmesedi@c.im)@heejinsoulyves@mastodon.cloud If you see this qrt w/ your bias from each gg! le sserafim – Chaewon – I love the bob. nmixx – Lily – Her singing wins me over . ive – Yujin – Liked her in IZ*ONE, love her here. newjeans – I don’t have a bias. red velvet – Wendy for her vocals. aespa – Ningning – Beautiful woman, love her singing and overall performance, just wish I actually liked more than a couple of aespa songs kep1er – xiaoting, but it’s tough to decide. blackpink – I honestly do not have a bias; I’m not saying that just because they are so popular. stayc – Yoon was my bias from the moment she appeared in “So Bad”. (g)i-dle – I don’t really follow them much these days . It would have been Soojin, but now it’s Minnie. itzy - I don’t have a bias. Twice – Jihyo. What a performer! billlie - Sua . I can’t explain why. #Kpop #GirlGroups #BiasList

The Wild Robot is such a delightful film. Of course it was created by Chris Sanders, of Lilo & Stitch, which ranks as one of my top animated films of all time. While it doesn’t have those lush handmade watercolour backgrounds, it does have a lovely painting style which brings the forest and characters to life. And the otters are frankly adorable.

Sometimes #movies are marketed under different titles in the US and Europe. It works both ways. Leon became The Professional and ended up as Leon: The Professional.

Most of the time these are #AnimatedFilms. Zootopia and Zootropolis.

Now we get #Vaiana2 in Europe but in the US it is #Moana2. This also happened with the first one. Apparently this a trademark issue.

The weirdest thing might be that on #DisneyPlus the movie is called #Moana, not #Vaiana (I am in Europe). So trademarks aren't a problem on streaming? But wouldn't it make more sense to be consistent?

@AnnaLandin I know, right?

Content, character, relationships. A few #AnimatedFilms in no particular order:

Nimona
The Sea Beast
Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio
Wendell & Wild
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
Strange World
Turning Red

Those fall into what I generally call "post-#Myazaki". Consider how most of his protagonists prevail via communication and thoughtfulness, etc.
