One of only three Saturn V rockets left in the world, this one is on display in the Saturn V Hall of the Davidson Center for Space Exploration in Huntsville, AL.
And it is massive.
One giant leap.

Only recently displaced as the most powerful machine ever built.
And still, I hear the MTV "bump, da dump, da dump da dump, bump, da dump, da dada dada dump, da dump, et cetera" every time I see the Saturn V.

Me, watching First Man:
"Holy crap, guys! Don't go ANYWHERE in that!! For Christ's sake, it's got TOGGLE SWITCHES!! I got a half-built HAM RADIO on my bench that's higher-tech than that!!"
"The moment of humankind's first voyage to the Moon and back was captured in a series of photos taken at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observing Station in Maui, Hawaii. They show the trans-lunar injection rocket burn which sent Apollo 8 hurtling out of Earth orbit toward the Moon on December 21, 1968"

In spite of the joke that NASA spent a million dollars developing a pen that could write in space, while the Soviets just used a pencil, the real story is more complicated.
In reality, US astronauts used pencils, crayons, and grease pencils, as did Soviet cosmonauts. None were an adequate solution.
Paul #Fischer, of Fischer #Pen Company, had been working on a pen that could write upside down or in any other position, something useful for many jobs, and offered it to NASA at a discount of $3 per pen.
When the Soviets eventually turned up asking for pen, they had to pay full retail.

#PPOD: This oblique view of the Moon was taken from the Lunar Module during the Apollo 12 mission on 1969-11-19 and shows the 107 km diameter Copernicus crater near the horizon at the center of the frame. Reinhold crater, 42 km across, is in the foreground. The Carpathian mountain range is visible on the horizon at the lower left. This area is just to the north of the Apollo 12 landing site. Happy Moon Landing Day!!! The Apollo program and Moon exploration has been a life-long obsession of mine. I’m so excited for our return on Artemis 2 and 3!

Today is the anniversary of the #Apollo11 Moon landing!
At Kennedy #Space Center’s Visitor Complex, it’s possible to visit the #Apollo / Saturn V Center, where a #SaturnV #rocket is on display, with its stages separated.
These are the 5 J-2 engines that powered the S-II stage that was the second stage on the Saturn V.
They burned liquid hydrogen (#LH2) and liquid oxygen (#LOX). This high-energy combination of propellants made it much easier for the United States to build a successful #Moon mission, whereas the Soviets were forced to stick with hypergolic fuels or kerosene, making lunar missions impractical.

#SpaceSaturday: The #Apollo 14 Command Module, named Kitty Hawk for the first place a heavier-than-air aircraft took off, just decades before #spacecraft took people to the #Moon.
#KittyHawk is on display at the #museum at the Kennedy #Space Center Visitors Complex’s Apollo/Saturn V Center, alongside a full-sized #SaturnV #rocket. It was recovered from the Pacific Ocean after landing by the USS New Orleans.
It sent Alan Shepard and Edgar Mitchell to the Moon, and Stuart Roosa into lunar orbit along on #KittyHawk.
