“Donations flowed to BC United long after it suspended election campaign”
“A link” to the “shadowy online world of conservatism”: Former Harper minister Stockwell Day is a director of West Coast Proud, which poured money into ads boosting BC Conservatives.
Zak Vescera reports. An investigation with @IJFmedia. #BCElxn2024
The BC NDP was able to eke out a majority government this #BCElxn2024.
What about the seats they lost? Where did the BC Greens and BC Conservatives gain ground?
Let’s have a look, with a little help from some visuals.
@gemelliz
Here’s a link to the corresponding @thetyee article. (Non-paywalled)

Canada needs to address these 3rd party ‘advertisers’ that are clearly backdoors for Conservative dark-money to work around campaign financing laws.
Edit: apparently I forgot to actually link to the article.

Good news about one election, anyway.

In the last fundraising quarter ahead of the provincial election, the surging BC Conservatives raised more money than the governing NDP.
Andrew MacLeod reports. #BCElxn2024
Tax cuts were promised by both the Conservatives and the NDP in the #BCElxn2024, framed as a way to ease cost-of-living pressures.
But tax cuts would do little to address the structural problems underlying those cost pressures. Alex Hemingway writes.
“It was heartening to see members of the BC Conservative party saying they accepted the result.”
The BC Conservatives raised many culture war topics. But one expert praises them for rejecting claims that the #BCElxn2024 was compromised, despite right-wing influencers casting doubt on the process.
Did BC Conservatives breach voters’ privacy?
BC United claimed members’ personal data was put at risk in July. Why we need an investigation, writes Charlie Smith. #bcpoli #BCElxn2024
#LISTEN: “If I toss out the number 27 votes, does that give you a sense of how close it was?”
@jenstden explains the nail-biter #BCElxn2024 on the latest ep of @thebigstoryfpn. Check it out.
Hate was on display by candidates of the Conservative Party of BC.
Leader John Rustad did nothing.
@vancolour’s final #LogicCheck says, however he spins it, Rustad abdicated his basic responsibilities as leader.
Rustad dumps his candidate who referred to Indigenous Peoples as savages *after* his party lost the recount in Juan de Fuca-Malahat and his chance at forming government in #BCElxn2024 .
Well OK then.

It’s here.
Dr. Steve’s post-election verdict.
You might not like his diagnosis.
@saskboy #BCElxn2024 is still not really over. There will still be automatic judicial recounts:
In Kelowna Centre, the threshold for a judicial recount is 49 votes. The difference between the top two candidates is 38 votes.
In Surrey-Guildford, the threshold for a judicial recount is 38 votes. The difference between the top two candidates is 27 votes.
K-C is for the moment held by a Con; S-G by the NDP.
The NDP won.
Now what?
A look back at a divisive campaign and a narrow victory.
@pinhman
Yeah. This time around though I expect the Cons to do everything in their power to undermine the NDP.
MAGA-style conservatism is all about disruption and sowing chaos so they can claim that the system is broken.
I can’t see them putting up a speaker.
Message from BC Con campaign manager Angelo Isidorou who took part in counting the ballots today in Surrey-Guildford. #BCElxn2024 #bcpol
Thank you, sir.
@chris
Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t one of the parties have yet to give up a seat for the speaker? I can’t see the Cons playing nice. And for the Greens the choice is either hold the balance or disappear into irrelevance.
It should be interesting times yet.
