Am 7. April ist der Internationale Tag der #Biber bzw. #InternationalBeaverDay. Es ist der Geburtstag der amerikanischen Biberforscherin Dorothy Richards (1894 – 1985) und wurde 2009 von der Organisation „#Beavers: #Wetlands & #Wildlife“ ausgerufen.
Wie kein anderes #Wildtier ist der Biber in der Lage, Lebensräume zu verändern und zu gestalten. Sein Einfluss ist so groß, dass er wahrscheinlich zur Entstehung vieler Arten beigetragen hat.

The front page of Wikipedia yesterday featured this article about a #beaver dam in the Czech Republic.

The Czech government had promised to restore some wetlands, but they dragged their bureaucratic feet.

So then some #beavers moved in. To quote Wikipedia:
"The beaver-built dams provided ecological benefits, including improved water quality, enhanced biodiversity, and better water retention, while also saving the Czech government approximately US$1.2 million."

Loch Dunmore - signs of #beavers but no sightings (not surprisingly in the noon sunshine). Lovely day here. There’s also a disappointing amount of litter (fencing, a tv aerial and other junk). I always find it so hard to understand why some people treat nature as a big rubbish bin.
