boxd.itA ★★★★★ review of Distant Voices, Still Lives (1988)It will always remain a mystery to me why Davies was a bit less succesful or well known with audiences compared to David Lean. Of course directorial qualities are equally high acknowledged, cfr the reviews their movies received.  Both were true poets of moving images. It must be the crowdpleasing ‘epic scale’, universal themes from Lean against the (sometimes violent) working-classes and bitter children from Davies.  Bigger movies vs smaller movies, but with a comparable depth, humanity and vision.
