Paul H :tinoflag:<p>One more photo from the family album. This one is titled, "Temperance Procession" and was taken in 1922 by my Great Uncle. I suspect the photo is taken in South Road, Caversham, near Laing Street. (My family back then were staunch Methodists. For years my grandfather wouldn't even play cards on a Sunday, but in his old age, he relented. He and I spent many an hour playing cribbage on his Sunday visits to our home in the late 1960's.)</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/%C5%8Ctepoti" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Ōtepoti</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/Dunedin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Dunedin</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/Caversham" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Caversham</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/Temperance" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Temperance</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/FamilyPhotos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FamilyPhotos</span></a></p>

Alex@rtnVFRmedia Suffolk UK<p>I took a small detour on the way back from <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Caversham" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Caversham</span></a>, and ended up outside the parish church (Our Lady and St Annes) where I attended Mass with my parents fairly regularly during the 1980s (my younger sister went to the primary/junior school next door). </p><p>It was built in 1902 (with various bits added over the years, and still looks much the same as it did 35 years ago, other than new entrance doors and a fairly extensive CCTV scheme..</p>
Alex@rtnVFRmedia Suffolk UK<p>You can see here why from 1943 to 2018 the <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/BBC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BBC</span></a> picked <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Caversham" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Caversham</span></a> (on the border of <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Reading" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Reading</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Berkshire" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Berkshire</span></a> and South <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Oxfordshire" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Oxfordshire</span></a>) as a good place for <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/radiomonitoring" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>radiomonitoring</span></a> (it is high up on the Chiltern hills). The signal from Radio Caroline (250 km away at <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Orfordness" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Orfordness</span></a>, <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Suffolk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Suffolk</span></a>) just about reaches here by night, and signals from a 500 kW TX which is apparently at Beijing at 8180 km away are quite strong..</p>
Alex@rtnVFRmedia Suffolk UK<p>It is a bit surreal staying the night in the attic room of my aunts house in <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Caversham" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Caversham</span></a> - last time I did this was 37 years ago - had to do this when I started high school to get a place at Highdown as my parents then lived in Tilehurst (4,5 miles / 7,24 km away) so I would have been out of catchment area. </p><p>My cousin was not at all surprised I shut off the Alexa in the guestroom *and* the Philips smartlamp for security reasons and instead brought along a portable MF/HF receiver 😁</p>
Alex@rtnVFRmedia Suffolk UK<p>Visiting relatives at <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Caversham" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Caversham</span></a>, <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Reading" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Reading</span></a> in SE England (where I lived for many years of my life) for Christmas, got there without too much hassle on A12/M25/M4 (but A12 road surface has got even worse) and managed to avoid dreaded 120mm tall kerb (nearly all the locals cars have badly scuffed alloys), it did take me a while to park as I was taking it slow (been bit by this kerb before and had to fork out a few quid getting alloys refurbed)</p>
