Oh hey, in reference to above: uhhh, no one seems to be getting vaccinated anymore and while that's bad, it also means no one seems to care anymore about whether you stick to a vaccine schedule?

As in, I'm trying to get a booster about every six months or so, and so far no one (my pharmacist, my doctor) seems to care about when I had the last one so they just do it (I'm in Oregon).

So if you want to get vaccinated again, definitely TRY! :)

It's unlikely we'll receive points in any other activity. Few applicants will be awarded points for eating and drinking. It's viewed that if you can grip cutlery, no matter how much pain you're in or how long it takes you to eat, then you are independent. Only applicants with eating disorders or a paralytic hand will be awarded points.

This campaign was inspired by George Monbiot who called the history of mistreatment of people with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) the “greatest medical scandal of the 21st century”

As Monbiot wrote, ME still has no approved treatments decades after being first recognized. This lack of scientific progress is too often explained as patients unwilling to get better or an illness too complicated to understand. But in reality, an intentional campaign has obstructed scientific breakthroughs and cures and stigmatized the illness. As a result, medical professionals don’t just neglect people with ME but often only offer them harmful treatments like cognitive behavioral therapy or graded exercise therapy. COVID-19 has added millions of new people with ME to the millions already sick, making coverage of this scandal imperative now more than ever.

I guess having “historically difficult to control” intestinal disease means having to choose between stopping your biologic for a while and receiving an updated MMR or staying on said med and risking a lack of immunity during a measles outbreak. This is fine. 🙄 #chronicillness

NatureAssociation between COVID-19 and the development of chronic kidney disease in patients without initial acute kidney injury - Scientific ReportsWhile the association between COVID-19 and acute kidney injury (AKI) is well documented, the impact of COVID-19 on the development of advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD) remains unclear, particularly in patients without initial AKI. Using the TriNetX healthcare database, we conducted a matched cohort study comparing 141,587 COVID-19 and 141,587 influenza patients. We excluded patients with AKI within one month of infection and matched groups on demographics, comorbidities, and baseline laboratory values. The primary outcome was the incidence of advanced CKD (stages 3–5) at the 12-month follow-up. COVID-19 patients showed higher 12-month risks of advanced CKD (hazard ratio [HR]:2.02, 95% confidence interval [CI]:1.69–2.42, p < 0.0001), AKI (HR 3.04, 95%CI:2.61–3.55, p < 0.0001), and estimated glomerular filtration rate < 60 mL/min/1.73 m2 (HR:3.01, 95%CI:2.74–3.30, p < 0.0001) compared to influenza patients. Subgroup analyses showed consistently elevated risks across sexes and in patients over 45 years, while younger patients did not demonstrate an increased risk of advanced CKD at the 12-month follow-up. Diabetes mellitus and hypertension have emerged as the strongest predictors of advanced CKD development. In conclusion, COVID-19 is associated with an increased risk of long-term renal dysfunction compared with influenza, suggesting the need for extended monitoring of kidney function in high-risk populations.
