Trevor<p>Equipment in contact with cider should not be made of steel as the malic acid dissolves the iron as ferrous ions and in the presence of air turns the cider black when poured through interaction with the tannins which are polyphenolic compounds and contain hydroxyl groups that can react with ferrous ions to form ferric tannates. Whilst unwanted in cider this is the same process as making early oak gall inks as described by Isaac Newton <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/cider" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cider</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/iron" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>iron</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/oxidation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>oxidation</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ink" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ink</span></a> www.teepeecider.co.nz</p>

Solarbird :flag_cascadia:<p>like the cosmic crisp isn't a great apple, this isn't a great cider. but also kind of like and yet moreso than the cosmic crisp, I think it's a cider that has an actual role. One _other than_ surviving shipping well.</p><p>it's supposed to be hot this week. if not this week, we're heading into august.</p><p>i bought a bottle. we'll see.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.murkworks.net/tags/seattle" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>seattle</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.murkworks.net/tags/cider" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cider</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.murkworks.net/tags/SeattleCider" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SeattleCider</span></a></p>
Solarbird :flag_cascadia:<p>so after saying more or less all the above to the seattle cider rep and also saying that making a cider from it seemed fairly unlikely, i gave it a try.</p><p>it's the pilsner of the apple cider world. but it's a _pretty decent_ pilsner.</p><p>I don't mean that it tastes like a pilsner; it doesn't. I don't like beer. But I know some of the _roles_ of beer. </p><p>this cider is light, but in defiance of my expectations, it's not _empty_. it has a presence. it's the sort of cider you'd actively enjoy in the shade during a very hot day, probably after you've been doing something athletic.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.murkworks.net/tags/seattle" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>seattle</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.murkworks.net/tags/cider" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cider</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.murkworks.net/tags/SeattleCider" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SeattleCider</span></a></p>
Solarbird :flag_cascadia:<p>seattle cider dropped a cosmic-crisp single variety cider, so i had a sample this weekend</p><p>my expectations were low because the cosmic crisp is what I think of as an adequate apple, but no better. it functions as an apple, it fulfills the role of apple, the texture is reliable and the flavour is acceptable. but there are many better - fuji and honeycrisp both come immediately to mind as similar but better cultivars not as durable in shipping.</p><p>(this isn't to condemn the cosmic crisp; the last apple to occupy its slot was the loathsome red delicious, a mealy, tasteless apple-shaped object which fulfilled the function of _looking_ like an apple, but not that of _being_ an apple. cosmic crisp is far superior.)</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.murkworks.net/tags/seattle" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>seattle</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.murkworks.net/tags/cider" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cider</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.murkworks.net/tags/SeattleCider" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SeattleCider</span></a></p>
Nigel<p>"Tonight I will be mostly..."</p><p>Made by Biddenden Cider locally and blended with just the right amount of honey and herbs. The folks at Biddenden don't really 'do' mild cider so the 7.5% rating is quite normal for them... </p><p>"It's just a lovely fruit drink made from apples and honey my dear, you finish it up and have another glass!" 😁😉</p><p><a href="https://musicians.today/tags/cider" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cider</span></a></p>

thezerobit<p>Bottled black cherry cider and spiced cider today. The spiced cider is clove forward, probably will go easier on those next time. I've got quite the collection of ciders on hand.
