Nicd<p>Our thuja trees are relentless. Every year, without fail, they produce a crapton of leaves(?), seeds, and other assorted stuff. We use it as cover around bushes etc. as it's free and our dog doesn't eat it. But I will soon have a third filled compost heap and no more places to put it.</p><p>I have pleaded, but the trees won't listen. How can the shedding never end? Where does it all come from???</p><p><a href="https://masto.ahlcode.fi/tags/compostodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>compostodon</span></a> <a href="https://masto.ahlcode.fi/tags/compost" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>compost</span></a> <a href="https://masto.ahlcode.fi/tags/thuja" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>thuja</span></a></p>

Siobhán Greaney (Shivers)<p>Advice sought from those who do <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/NoMowMay" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>NoMowMay</span></a> - or know about <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/Rewilding" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Rewilding</span></a> gardens. Does the no mowing include before May - so that you leave it fallow until at least June? Or would the garden benefit from a trim in March/April if dry enough to mow? (If we do ever get a couple of dry days in a row here in the West of Ireland.) Conflicting advice in the past, especially from my pro-mowing partner. I live and walk by the sea in Wollongong, and I’m a gardener. In 2025 I joined up with a small organisation focused on compassionate ways of working in healthcare. I’ve been on here since 2016 and I’m still here, listening and thinking. </p><p>I believe we have to work together differently to face the future we’re facing. MostlyTato<p>The allotment continues to cook its materials over the winter. The compost and leaf crate are both full, as is the comfrey bin.<br>I also got given a mini greenhouse thingy, but so far the only use for it I've found is to store bought compost that I've been paid in kind with.<br>It always amazes me how such a large volume of material transforms into a relatively small amount of compost. Its an amazing process though.</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/allotment" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>allotment</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/compost" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>compost</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/compostodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>compostodon</span></a></p>

Our compost pile got attention this week. The mostly composted 2024 materials were shuffled to the left bay. The material looks good. Unfortunately the earthworm count was in the single digits. The fresh 2024 stems, vines, and such are going in the right bay. The lopper is leaning on the fence for chopping. The runner ducks check the pile a dozen times a day to help.
