RaymondPierreL3<p>According to Samara PcPhedron writing in The <a href="https://aus.social/tags/Conversation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Conversation</span></a>, the author convincingly argues that <a href="https://aus.social/tags/violence" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>violence</span></a> is not on the increase when compared to the available statistics and trends from 1995 onwards:</p><p>“…when we consider Australia’s responses when violence does occur, measures such as bans (for example, on machetes), more police powers and more (or longer) prison sentences have become the fallback.</p><p>Evidence shows these types of reactions achieve little, but in an environment of endless “crisis” it is almost impossible to make good decisions. This is made even harder in circumstances where victims and activists push politicians to implement “feel-good” policies, regardless of how ultimately fruitless those will be.”<br> <br>The <a href="https://aus.social/tags/politicians" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>politicians</span></a> knee jerk reaction to reporting on violent crime is to ‘beat-it-up’ with the help of willing MSM accomplices to achieve a political agenda regardless of facts. Law enforcement agencies, for some unfathomable reasons, seem to do their very best to inflame mass hysteria.</p><p>Faced with corrupt politicians, over-eager policing and bad journalism, what are Australians to think/do? It’s an intractable problem short of universal political awakening when election time comes around again. </p><p>Boom and bust cycles are sure to repeat no matter what.</p><p><a href="https://aus.social/tags/ViolentCrime" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ViolentCrime</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/AusPol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AusPol</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/LawAndOrder" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LawAndOrder</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/Politics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Politics</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/Journalism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Journalism</span></a></p><p>Read more here: </p><p><a href="https://theconversation.com/is-australia-becoming-a-more-violent-country-260102" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">theconversation.com/is-austral</span><span class="invisible">ia-becoming-a-more-violent-country-260102</span></a></p>
