"An extremist blogger, who has become the Trump administration’s so-called “dark enlightenment” sage, is debating a Harvard professor of political philosophy at an unsanctioned event on its campus next week.

Curtis Yarvin, who was for a time an obscure darling of Silicon Valley and the broader spectrum of the fringe right wing, has emerged as a major philosophical influence on key Capitol Hill power brokers. He is considered a favorite of Vice-President JD Vance, an ally of the tech mogul Peter Thiel, and having the ear of senior state department official, Michael Anton, among others.

Yarvin’s outlandish politics vouching for dictatorships and a new “American Caesar”, as he discussed in a 2021 podcast with Anton, in place of liberal democracy has made him both a much-maligned and loved figure.

Yarvin has also promoted blatant rightwing extremism, in the present and past: under his pen name Mencius Moldbug, he argued the racist, Norwegian mass murderer Anders Breivik was no more a terrorist than Nelson Mandela; he has also recently asserted the well-trodden, bigoted and historical trope that Black Americans under slavery in the old south, enjoyed much better living standards as chattel."

Grimes *says* she doesn't support "the far alt right" (v. ambiguous) and doesn't want her children publicly posted. But previous statements and actions indicate this is not true. Even at this late stage, the combination of such an extreme lack of self-awareness and so much self-pity all wrapped up in a single person is just astonishing.

Yarvin seems shocked that Musk (with zero government experience except for a reliance on government contracts) is doing such a poor job. He also seems chagrined at Trump's specific actions, like tariffs, which are throwing markets into chaos. In political terms, the whole thing is a total disaster. By early 2025, millions of Americans are marching in streets and even Republican voters are showing up at town halls to express seething anger.

Yarvin seems to have come to a stark realization: If Musk/Trump fail to destroy the democratic system, extreme anti-government pseudo-intellectuals may face a bleak future. He urgently warns them against half-assing the revolution – and reveals his own fear of what might happen when the pendulum swings in the other direction:

Musk's authoritarian fantasies aren't pipe dreams; he is constructing them, forcing them into being. His social media platform spreads rightwing propaganda, disinformation, and lies, his companies serve political interests... Every statement, every action, every so-called defense of "free speech" is another ham-fisted Muskian attempt to normalize extremism and undermine democratic governance. The man is a Nazi in all but name, a walking, talking, tweeting, sieg-heiling argument against his own master race musings. But he is not alone.

Peter Thiel may not stand beside Musk, but he stands aligned, financing a political machine intended to entrench corporate rule and feed humanity into the meat grinder. Thiel has spent decades working to dismantle democracy, viewing it as a roadblock to elite power, himself the elite personified...

A lot of what is going on in the #USA #USpol right now can be explained by the neofascist movement of #DarkEnlightenment envisioned by #curtisyarvin and led by the tech billionaires like #ElonMusk and Peter Thiel. This ideology is what seems to have replaced the traditional #GOP and what gave birth to the #Project2025
