My sister-in-law lives in #FL and thinks every airplane in thr sky is a drone. How long until some FL-bumpkin starts shooting at Cessnas or helicopters?

#Florida property owners pestered by spying #drones could soon be allowed to fight back with 'force'

foxnews.com/us/florida-propert

> A potential new law in Florida would give homeowners the ability to use "reasonable force" against drones infringing on their right to privacy, aiming to protect against surveillance.

Realised this morning that a recent @spatialised cleanup left a lot of stories with missing images!

This is a disaster for a very visual medium (maps, geospatial things, myself) and marketing 😬

So today's job is repair...

Starting with this one, a quick capability tour using a small backpackable drone for understanding about growing things (plants / trees). There's more than ice and snow in my toolkit ;).

drones are and will be the game changer in our lives, not AI. and radio sec will be as important as ever

"The demonstrator weapon, a type of Radiofrequency Directed Energy Weapon (RF DEW), uses high-frequency radio waves to disrupt the electronic components inside drones [...] cost of 10p per shot fired, if developed into operational service it could provide a cost-effective complement to traditional missile-based air defence systems" gov.uk/government/news/british

I was looking at cool aerial camera #drones. Seems like you can get stuff like the Ruko F11 DIM2 for like $200-$300. But it seems like I will need to go register with the FAA or something?

Anybody out there doing #drone #photography? Is it hard to get the license or whatever? Is it worth it? I’m mostly just wanting to fart around with it. But I don’t want to try to do the recreational flyer thing.

I’m of 2 minds: 1 giving any more info to a government agency right now seems kinda not great. 2. Have they fired the whole enforcement division so maybe it doesn’t matter?

Anybody have opinions? Feel free to boost.

A decade ago I presented this pair of slides to an all-staff seminar at the Australian Antarctic Division. First shows a lidar pass as a reasonable scale for piloted aircraft. Second is a dense point cloud of a ship in sea ice showing a reasonable scale for RPAS/drone operations.

This is still true. At the time no small RPA existed that could operate in those conditions. In 2021/22 I was flying one in the Arctic, and it turns out slide 2 was very optimistic!
