Mark HOne of those phone memories surfaced reminding us that a mere six years ago today we were in Damme in Belgium. This is the Damme Canal, built on the orders of Napoleon in order to move troops to the Netherlands without harassment from the British. With its proximity to southern UK and ease of getting across there on day trips, Belgium is one of our most-visited foreign countries, and we hit Damme instead of nearby <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Bruges" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Bruges</a> on this occasion as we'd been to the more well-known city several times before. The route I took was mostly along the Damme Canal and in Damme you pass possibly the most photographed windmill in the whole of Flanders, standing proud next to the canal.
