#finalcutpro

Have had a few chats with some folks about this, but wanted to see if I could get more input:

I'd like to start doing more beefy video editing and curious which route I should go: Resolve or Final Cut Pro? I'm new to both apps and have background on some of the differences between each, but would love to get thoughts from those with experience. There's pros and cons for both.

Thanks in advance!

Who do you know on the #finalcutpro team?

Be aware! If you are editing a project in Final Cut Pro for iPad and you want to import that project into Final Cut Pro (for Mac) you cannot convert the project from 2D to Spatial Video.

The project settings dialog doesn’t allow you to convert the project to Spatial even though the source media from the .fcpbundle is Spatial Video.

Putting this out there to my friends on the fediverse- I am at a crossroads for video editing software. I’m past where iMovie does what I need. The question is do I make the huge leap to #davinciresolve or go with what is probably more similar and easy to use with #finalcutpro for my editing needs? Definitely not a professional so I don’t need professional color grading, literally just a couple of lots and some fiddling around with contrast and highlights works well for me. Any thoughts?

Bizarre bug(?) in FCP: dropping a clip into a project that is set to the same resolution and frame rate (1080p/23.98) and the same three frames out of every second are consistently dropped. Almost like one side of the app sees the metadata and plays it back, but the engine fails to render.

Solution? Add an effect, in this case a blur, but set the amount to zero. This forces FCP to re-render the clip, and eliminates the missed frames. WTF.

I'm not a filmmaker, but I've been using #Kdenlive to make some simple video edits, here and there ever since I moved to #Linux, and I far loved it over all other video editors I've used (for my use case) including #Adobe's #PremierePro, #Apple's #FinalCutPro, and #Sony's #VEGASPro.

I even edited all of our wedding videos - 1 for my side of the wedding, and another for the bride's side of the wedding using Kdenlive. Boggles my mind how this super easy to use yet so much more powerful video editor than I need it to be is
#FOSS. Definitely one of #KDE's best app yet, the only other KDE app that I think is on par in terms of quality and UI/UX is probably Dolphin (tho there are others that come quite close).

Still can’t figure out the Magnetic Timeline in #FinalCutPro?

Charlie Austin’s Creative Cow article from 2014 is still one of the best around:
