TraktFunny Woman 2x01 "Episode 1" shout by RikerDonegalGemma Arterton: The main appeal of this show is definitely the star. Arterton is wonderful. Sophie Straw: The adorable main character is another reason to watch. We want this heroine to overcome all obstacles and succeed. World of TV: For me, the coolest thing in seeing behind the scenes at these television shows. Josie Lawrence and Jack Docherty, in particular, were hilarious. The Sixties: The show’s eagerness to embrace/emulate/recreate the 1960s is a huge part of it’s charm. The music and the visual style are irresistible. The Love Story: We want these two lovers to find a way. The Comedy: The show is frequently hilarious. 10/10

s1e6 (2023) - 8/10
Good final episode.

1️⃣ As an ending this works. But it leaves so many things up in the air, I can only hope there is a second series. Does the novel also stop here?

2️⃣ I started watching for . Because, yes, I’m completely smitten with her. (And have been since . I freely admit it.) But, of course, everyone loves a good underdog story and I got invested in Barbara’s journey to stardom.

Best episode; funniest.

1️⃣ Everything has gone to crap. For everyone. But this episode had the most laughs. And the best character moments. They really are a likeable bunch.

2️⃣ Nice cliffhanger. The show uses romcom tropes really well.

s1e4 (2023) - 8/10

1️⃣ It doesn’t bother me that nothing much happens. The fictional world that the show has created - one that draws heavily on real people/events from the 1960s - is completely captivating. And very entertaining.

2️⃣ And something does, in fact, happen in the last ten minutes! The show is consistently good at establishing a crisis in the closing scenes. Making it look as if everything is going to go horribly wrong for Sophie...

1️⃣ There’s nothing here we haven’t seen before, but the show is charming. I freely admit to being utterly charmed by , for a start.

2️⃣ It reminds me of a feelgood/upbeat version of one of those trashy 80s mini-series where the heroine is seduced by success, makes bad choices, and it all goes horribly wrong for her.

Better than episode 1, as our heroine enters the world of BBC sitcoms.

✅ Given that we assume she’s destined for eventual success, the show generates a surprising amount of tension/suspense with the various obstacles that crop up in her path.
