Yoss1960<p>By this time last year, l had raised 5 issues with the <a href="https://mastodon.me.uk/tags/GRO" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GRO</span></a>. This year, it's 7. An increase of 40%</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.me.uk/tags/Depressing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Depressing</span></a></p>
Yoss1960<p>It doesn't happen often - but today, the <a href="https://mastodon.me.uk/tags/GRO" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GRO</span></a> gave a full refund on a certificate order I placed.</p><p>Why? Because, although the person appears in the index, the certificate is, currently, not available to the GRO (poor quality, missing, IDK)</p><p>In fact, this is the first time I've experienced such a thing in over fifteen years of certificate ordering.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.me.uk/tags/FamilyHistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FamilyHistory</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.me.uk/tags/Genealogy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Genealogy</span></a><br>1/2</p>
Yoss1960<p>Well, the <a href="https://mastodon.me.uk/tags/GRO" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GRO</span></a> have surpassed themselves. After giving credit where it's due, I now have to report that they're trying desperately to get as many orders wrong as possible (two of the past three).</p><p>Furthermore, because of the way errors are reported (per item, not per order) I have to fill out the report form multiple times (two or three) per order. Since the form also disallows use of history, it means double checking *everything* to ensure accuracy.</p><p>Grrrr! 👎</p>
Yoss1960<p>Credit where it's due;</p><p>Even though I've ordered more certificates and PDFs from the <a href="https://mastodon.me.uk/tags/GRO" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GRO</span></a> this year compared to last year, there has been a 33% drop in problems. Mostly non-delivery issues with PDFs.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.me.uk/tags/FamilyHistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FamilyHistory</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.me.uk/tags/Genealogy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Genealogy</span></a></p>
Yoss1960<p>Thankfully, the indexes at the <a href="https://mastodon.me.uk/tags/GRO" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GRO</span></a> now include Mother's Maiden Name (MMN) for all births, so I can eliminate one birth record as MMN is wrong. That still leaves the two deaths. I have a hunch it'll be the one for a child age 0, rather than the child aged 1.</p><p> I see the purchase of some digital images from the <a href="https://mastodon.me.uk/tags/GRO" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GRO</span></a> to sort it all out.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.me.uk/tags/FamilyHistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FamilyHistory</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.me.uk/tags/Genealogy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Genealogy</span></a> <br>2/2</p>

Vivienne Dunstan<p>More luck with my first Scottish family in the English BMD records digital certificate buy. Thought for £2.50 I'd take a peek at the 1841 or so birth certificate of my ggg-uncle Simon Scott, born just over the border in Mindrum. Just a couple of days after census day. And yes the family were there in the census too. They moved back to Scotland later. <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Genealogy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Genealogy</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/FamilyHistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FamilyHistory</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/England" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>England</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Northumberland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Northumberland</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/BMD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BMD</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/GRO" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GRO</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/EnglishGRO" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>EnglishGRO</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/BirthCertificates" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BirthCertificates</span></a></p>
Vivienne Dunstan<p>First go trying the new English GRO digital images system for birth and death certificates. Not a great result! Cropping + a tilted copy means I've been given a very incomplete copy of my granddad's birth certificate. Then a very laborious process contacting customer services. <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Genealogy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Genealogy</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/FamilyHistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FamilyHistory</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/England" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>England</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Yorkshire" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Yorkshire</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Leeds" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Leeds</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/BMD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BMD</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Digitization" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Digitization</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Digitisation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Digitisation</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/DigitalImages" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DigitalImages</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/GRO" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GRO</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/EnglishGRO" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>EnglishGRO</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/BirthCertificates" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BirthCertificates</span></a></p>
