New hearing aid day.

Every time, it feels like one hand giveth, and the other hand taketh away.

So I'm playing around figuring where each improvement and each disprovement (?) occurs.

Already found that the speech-in-noise really sucks compared to my old ones. The overall sound is better, though. Also, it hates my cell phone. I'll see if my streamer works with it (which is how I fixed it with my previous pair). But my previous pair had some functionality with my phone. This pair has none.

I have hearing aids in my near-term future to help with my APD (auditory processing disorder). My audiologist highly recommends the Oticon Intent 1's. Anyone have experience with these that you can share?

I'm going to be spending a lot of money to get them, so I want to make sure there are no glaring issues with them.

Thanks!

I review #HearingAids as a community service. I have hearing loss and use aids to hear better. I started doing reviews 7 years ago and it's caught on. I get aids to review and I post them on YouTube. Free reviews, no alliance with the manufacturers. I am surprised they don't take advantage of them...until now. My most recent review was advertised by the maker. It's gotten hundreds of views and over 100 a day since I posted it. Seems just rational, but almost none of them do.

A contact of mine (from #YACF ) has drawn up a webpage as an attempt to explain a few key things about deafness, hearing aids and 'hearing as a deaf person' in the hope it will help deaf and hearing people understand and communicate better and more kindl

It includes a lot of extremely useful information and advice - give it a read. You don't know when you'll next meet someone with hearing difficulties.

In case it saves someone else a morning of fruitless troubleshooting: looks like Apple have disabled hearing aid usage in the UK for iOS 18.2 (it worked for me in 18.1).

Somewhat bemused and frustrated. Bizarrely the main article (ie not the UK specific one, includes UK in the list 🤷 )

Continued thread

It's just normal hearing loss that comes with age, but in one ear there is frequency loss which is usually attributed to weapons fire (?????), and that's really odd.

So, anyway I decided to get through Xmas and NY first (no big social gatherings to worry about) and will have the #HearingAids fitted and in use for a while before work reopens.
I'm not worried about how friends and family will react, but I'm a bit nervous about returning to work.
Will update as things progress. 😊

Ok folks, I've recently discovered I need #HearingAids, and thought it might be helpful to others to share my journey. (Please mute the # if you don't want to see these posts).
I suspected something wasn't right when I realised I was struggling to follow conversations in noisy environments.
There's an app called HearWHO that I tried and it showed that there is an issue. Last week my hearing was properly tested and yep, I'm now booked in for further testing and fitting in the early new year.

MobileSyrup reports "On December 12, Health Canada approved the Apple AirPods Pro 2 hearing test and hearing aid features for use in Canada. This is the first regulatory hurdle the company needed to cross to bring the hearing aid features to Canada, but there are still some provincial restrictions."
