West Wycombe Park from a few summers ago. West Wycombe Park is the pleasure palace of 18th-century libertine and dilettante Sir Francis Dashwood, 2nd Baronet who also established the infamous "Hellfire Club" in the nearby West Wycombe Caves.
The Hellfire Club, founded in 1718 by Philip, Duke of Wharton, was notorious for its debauchery and mock religious ceremonies. Benjamin Franklin, a close friend of Francis Dashwood, visited the Hellfire Caves, adding to the club's mystique.
