Athanasius HAS MOVED<p>Except it turns out that getting IPv4 address via DHCP takes long enough that my NFS mounts then don't come up.</p><p>I ended up writing an exit-hook, documented here: <a href="https://github.com/NetworkConfiguration/dhcpcd/issues/100#issuecomment-2429121515" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/NetworkConfiguratio</span><span class="invisible">n/dhcpcd/issues/100#issuecomment-2429121515</span></a></p><p>It works, but still feels a little fragile. Perhaps I should attempt converting `/etc/network/if-up.d/nfsmounts` to systemd paradigms....</p><p><a href="https://techhub.social/tags/debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>debian</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/dhcp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dhcp</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/dhcpcd" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dhcpcd</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/isc" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>isc</span></a></p>
Athanasius HAS MOVED<p>Knowing that ISC is deprecating all of its old DHCP code bases I've already migrated to KEA (their new codebase) for DHCPv4/6 servers, but also needed to find a *client* to use, as I know I'm going to temporarily move my desktop to an environment where DHCPv4 will be easiest for network setup.</p><p>So, this being Debian I've gone around the houses of the various DHCP packages.</p><p>In the end I've settled on the `dhcpcd-base` package (*not* the `dhcpcd` one as I don't want the daemon). After a little light bashing of my head up against the man page I have a configuration that does both DHCPv4 and v6.</p><p>I *had* been using `wide-dhcpv6` for DHCPv6, but that wasn't being triggered once I invoked `interface inet lan0 dhcp` in an interfaces(5) file, and it's just simpler to use only one piece of software.</p><p>Needed `option dhcp6_name_servers` to pick up the IPv6 DNS server. `ipv6ra_noautoconf` got rid of privacy/SLAAC addresses. Also populated `/etc/resolv.conf.head` for my preferred `search` list.</p><p><a href="https://techhub.social/tags/debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>debian</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/dhcp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dhcp</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/isc" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>isc</span></a></p>
Athanasius HAS MOVED<p>Oh, that's why me KEA dhcpv6 configuration wasn't working:</p><p>1) I'd converted the configuration over from my prior isc-dhcpv6 one.<br>2) The configuration has some fixed address assignments, specified via duid, but these weren't working.<br>3) The dhcpv6 'ADVERTISE' message in this case was saying "Server could not select subnet for this client".</p><p>It turns out that the example configuration makes NO MENTION of needing an `"interface": "..."` stanza within the `"subnet6"` section. This is to tell the server the network is local and that, yes, it can reach such clients.</p><p><a href="https://techhub.social/tags/isc" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>isc</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/kea" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>kea</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/isckea" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>isckea</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/dhcpv6" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dhcpv6</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a></p>
