Ilya Kabakov's albums and installations are almost always made as if on behalf of another, fictitious artist and are provided with corresponding comments. As a result, the viewer can observe a glaring discrepancy between the serious concept of the work and its trivial execution. This gap causes an invariable humorous effect.

I didn’t get to post at the weekend following the news that Ilya Kabakov had died, aged 89. The conceptual artist was born in Dnipropetrovsk in what was then the Ukrainian SSR of the Soviet Union. He worked for 30 years in Moscow, from the 1950s until the late ‘80s.
