That doesn't seem like something you should be able to get insurance to escape?

"According to The Times of Israel, the insurer, PassportCard, has allocated $1 million to cover the cost of repatriating #Israelis to avoid possible prosecution for alleged crimes during the war in #Gaza which followed the Hamas attack on Israel on 7 October 2023." irishtimes.com/world/europe/20 Peter Cluskey in #TheHague 25 February 2025 #irishtimes

The Irish Times · Israeli soldiers flee Netherlands following accusations of Gaza war crimesBy Peter Cluskey

Irish Times survey: "Voters in the South [of Ireland], as well as voters from a Catholic background in Northern Ireland, are more strongly opposed to Commonwealth membership than they are to NATO membership."

Despite joining NATO having significant foreign policy implications and joining the Commonwealth being purely symbolic, albeit of British hegemony.

The Irish Times · South opposed to joining Nato or Commonwealth to smooth Irish unityBy Pat Leahy

It could be R.I.P. for rip.ie
I do hope this really hits the Irish Times greed hard. I don't think this was ever run to be a hugely profitable business, more of a public service that made a reasonable income for owners . Now, by asking for €100 fee per death notice, Irish Times have created an industry worth competing in, and it may likely be the end of their site, as other more cost efficient players enter their market.

Over on Bluesky I have a thread of my thoughts on why this could be a bad idea unless it *increases* investment in teaching critical thinking and research skills and literacy around and . I’ll cross post it properly later (probably as a blog post) but for now bsky.app/profile/castlebridge-

[09:01] 35% say the standard of living is worse now - Exit Poll

More than one in three people who took part in the RTÉ, Irish Times, TG4 and Trinity College Dublin Exit Poll carried out by Ipsos B&A immediately after voting yesterday said their standard of living has worsened over the past year, while just over one in 10 said it has improved.

[07:29] Crunching the numbers - what does the Exit Poll tell us?

In the latest episode of RTÉ's General Election podcast Behind the Ballot, David McCullagh and Katie Hannon get stuck into the nitty-gritty of what the RTÉ, Irish Times, TG4 and Trinity College Dublin Exit Poll carried out by Ipsos B&A data suggests.

While the #IrishTimes insists on hiding this pronouncement behind their #paywall, it needs to be discussed openly. #IrishReunification and #ScottishIndependence go hand in hand. They are the (final) #tippingpoints in the dismantlement of the #BritishEmpire once and for all. Both are long past due. The #Royals know this better than anyone. That franchise will be #privatized as well.

The Irish Times · Leo Varadkar calls for all parties to make pledge on Irish unityBy Mark Hennessy

A flute teacher who claims that a State-funded music school has been wasting public money by paying him and his colleagues for lessons it had no students to attend has now accused an education and training board of penalising him for whistleblowing by assigning him no new students and threatening disciplinary action. 😂

'It hasn't been our day': #MaryLouMcDonald disappointed with #SinnFein's election performance

I would like to her opinions from Irsh people, esp. leftwing, anarchist, #SolidarityWithPalestine 🇵🇸 Irish Mastodon and particularly from any member of Sinn Fein.

Also, what do you think of #SimonHarris? Actually, IDK who he is or what his politics or his party's politics are. All I know is he's pro- #PalestinianState 🇵🇸 , so I'd like to hear from you

How to entrench #inequality in a society:

Major news media endlessly reinforce the message that Greed is Good. According to the #IrishTimes "#Ireland’s high earners have doubled in number since pre-pandemic - they are now #vital for #IncomeTax", excessive #wealth is "central to the health of the exchequer", etc, etc.

Ireland's tax is indeed "progressive", and AFTER taxes is one of the most unequal countries in #Europe.

The British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) says that the next British government must negotiate an improved trading relationship with the European Union (EU) as businesses face ever-higher costs from Brexit, with tighter migration rules and rising costs and complexity of exports that are throttling investment and growth at home.

I thought the IT had lurched to the right lately but this is ridiculous!

Seriously, the Irish Times today is almost unrecognisable from the often-progressive, intelligent, useful paper I used to read daily in the early noughties. Then they began uncritically cheerleading the property madness, had the daft.ie debacle and I guess online media finished them off.

It still has the external form of its old self but inside, there's scarcely any of its former spirit.
