It appears McGregor and his associates have a very loose grasp of history. All those Irish emigrants to various parts of the world. Were they ‘invading’ those places too? And all those English, Norse and other invaders who came to Ireland in the far past? I very much doubt any of those four associates platforming racism and exclusion in Dublin this week have even looked into their own history. They might find a few very uncomfortable truths right there.
We are all immigrants - we all moved about historically, and currently. We disperse to other locations and other countries. It’s very much part of human psyche and history. For all the hype, I hope McGregor loses all his upcoming legal appeals, and no sane person or council gives him the support or attention he’s demanding.

However, the real intrigue was about the man who accompanied them. https://www.rte.ie/news/analysis-and-comment/2025/0418/1508382-conor-mcgregor/ #Tuesdaythisweek #ConorMcGregor #Dublin #MalachySteenson #PhilipSutcliffe #MerrionStreet

Not just the 11th night bonfires wrecking the environment. As far as the DUP are concerned, there’s no such thing as climate change; well, being the fundamentalist [when convenient] bible-bashers they are, it doesn’t surprise me. loads of money for bonfires, or their preferred football stadium, or Ulster Scots - none for GAA, none for Irish language signage, and definitely none for environmental protection. Meanwhile Lough Neagh, the largest freshwater lake in the UK [I think] is dying of pollution; and that same Lough Neagh supplies much of the drinking water for Belfast. Logics and joined up thinking are not the DUP’s strong points.#NIPolitics #UKPol #IrlPol bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cwy6n2

Watching Harris bemoan the unseemliness of yesterday's Dail proceedings from a foreign junket as if it was some random thing that happened instead of being a direct result of his personal decisions as leader of his party and member of the coalition; and then to say we have to draw a line and move on to deal with real issues when he's leading the party that spent the last twenty years in power without tackling those real issues...

...that's peak Irish Politics shitebaggery right there.

Isn't it so Irish to chance your arm, get away with it, and the instant you get called on it, lead off with "Well this is an unseemly argument and we must draw a line under it now and move on".

But the moment something arises where a quick action would resolve the problem - like, say arguing about the mass grave in Tuam instead of getting on the train to Tuam with a shovel and a camera, which would have avoided months of Terry Prone-ing everyone - we waffle till we fall asleep.

3 of the political parties appear to have received ~1/5 of the votes each. The marginally loudest of the 3 will no doubt be out-sung by the other 2 jointly, assuming a bulk of the remaining 2/5 of the choir can sing a coherent backing chorus. It will take weeks for the choir to rehearse, and who knows who'll be the chosen soloist. Though probably yet another duet.

Maybe someday we'll scrap the choir and hire a DJ...

I had missed that Renua had rebranded as the Centre Party. I mean, the name was red flaggy as all hell and the website reinforced that (imagery is so deeply USian right wing badness), but yeah, that simple rebrand info would have been enough.

s/: Hm, IDK, #Rishi. As a descendent of a people that were colonized by the #Brits, did it never occur to you that the Torys destroyed #Britains's attractiveness with #Brexit so much, that not even #AsylumSeekers want to go there anymore for lack of a better life? /s
