It's almost midnight and I'm still tinkering with the new Mac and macOS 26. Considering the fact that imagemagick, when creating a simple PDF, immediately jumps to 11.6GB of memory usage illustrates the fact that my old Mac mini really didn't have enough RAM.

Yes, this is fun... in a way...

Looks like the Mac mini M4 could turn out to be a quite capable retro machine for 86Box emulation. I just made a few tweaks to my Windows 95 VM settings and it could easily emulate a 350MHz Pentium II with the performance meter basically stuck at 100%. Which is already more than what my good, old Ryzen 5 5600X could do on Windows 11.

This definitely calls for more research!

Auf dem neuen Mac mini M4 und unter macOS Tahoe 26 scheint diese "Digitale Bilder" App nun endlich wieder halbwegs zuverlässig mit meinem Scanner zu funktionieren. Nachdem ich den Mac zu bestimmt 60% überhaupt nur angeschafft habe, um Retro Handbücher und Datenträger einzulesen und die Bilder in Pixelmator Pro zu bearbeiten, ist das tatsächlich mal ein großer Schritt vorwärts!

Es wurde ja auch Zeit!

Die Preise für alltägliche Notwendigkeiten sind mittlerweile echt viel zu teuer! Da nimmt man nur ein paar Kleinigkeiten mit und ist schon blitzschnell im dreistelligen Bereich! Sauerei!

Although my iMac “sunflower” is no longer working, its keyboard has found a second life. I usually find it relaxing to disassemble, clean, and reassemble old mechanical keyboards — but not this one. Too many screws, too much plastic, and even glue! A design that sacrifices future repairability for immediate beauty. Back then, not every Apple product was like this… sadly, today most of them are.

Important things have been achieved. Now, the real work starts. Goodbye Tilverton sewers, goodbye Fire Knives - and goodbye to the first of my azure bonds.

found a 20 year old receipt for my iMac G5 20-inch, ordered brand new from the apple store when i was a grad student in 2004. this was their flagship imac at the time.

it has been a long, long time since i even imagined spending that kind of money on a new computer

sometimes life presents you with a choice: you can spend a sunday in the comforts of home, or you can drive 4 hours to rescue 40 issues of Wired mag from hitting the recycle bin

the seller planned to toss these the next morning if someone didn’t pick them up. these 42 issues span 2000 to 2004 - fairly fascinating time in big tech, during and after the dotcom crash.

when he handed over the magazines he noticed I was smiling. he asked what I was planning to do with them.

“Read them!”

I handed him $20 and he looked genuinely sad, like he had just sold a six year old a bag of magic beans.

Aujourd'hui, nous nous levons tôt pour emmener une des chattes chez le vétérinaire, un de ses yeux se ferme avec une paupière enflée. Et des fois l'autre. Bref nous ne sommes pas rassurées, et mon amoureuse est adorable de nous accompagner alors qu'elle pourrait dormir.

Ensuite mon époux·e nous offre un petit déjeuner en terrasse avec des lattes et des cookies.

Ça m'a fatiguée pour la journée, nous travaillons doucement à un projet de réhabilitation d'une carcasse de Macintosh SE, dont la première étape est de déménager une partie du salon pour retrouver le bon carton. Je ferai un post détaillé une fois le projet terminé.

Le soir, j'e vais participer à la première réunion d'une association dont le but est la sauvegarde de la librairie féministe locale, joli bijou dans notre campagne, c'est aussi celle qui avait accueilli ma première exposition. Évidemment j'ai envie d'aider.
